Michelle and Rachel - Twins, Sisters, Friends

Michelle and Rachel

My Love of Rachel

The first thing to mention is that having Rachel as my twin has been a profound experience. From birth we have had an absoluteness in our connection that has literally been unshakable. No matter what wobbles or issues that have arisen in our relationship this absoluteness has always been there. It is unbreakable and cannot be touched.  This has supported me throughout my life and has given me a constant terminal as I have navigated my way through, sometimes with great difficulty and sadness.
What an honest to goodness gift and blessing!
What do I love and appreciate about Rachel? Wow! I think the first thing to mention is her utter dedication to bringing and living more of herself in life, a transformation that is inspiring. Over the last 12 years I have watched her tackle her issues head on to become a powerhouse, committed to life with every fibre of her being. With her ever willingness to go deeper in her awareness she holds herself in steadiness, grace and truth. She is an inspiration in this regard. She also has one of the biggest hearts I have ever encountered in anyone. Her capacity to love and to be open with people is simply gorgeous.
I love her sense of playfulness. Like a child sometimes the simple joy she gets from making footprints in the snow or sand reminds me to stop being so serious and to enjoy those lovely small moments.  She definitely leads the way in this for me!
The way she engages with and supports children is also lovely to behold. A true teacher, Rachel is all about supporting kids to understand the love that they are and to hold them accountable to that. For a couple of terms I had the privilege (and joy) of being her teaching assistant – what fun we had working together! What I appreciated most was that Rachel was always ready to admit when she was wrong and allowed the children to say it. She never reacted but always held them in equality ready and willing to learn from them as much as they learned from her.
Overall Rachel has a great love of people and they are as important to her as breathing. Her willingness and dedication to giving back is huge and her joy at making new relationships profound.
I find that I can read her like a book and there is no effort in this – it just is; another super thing to appreciate about her as it reminds me that the ease within our relationship is an ease I can have with everyone, my relationship with her has set the bench mark for trust, trust in myself too. It has shown me that even on the surface, if it looks like things are broken, there is a much deeper love and connection underneath that is with us 24/7. This is tangible and real and as I said before cannot be broken.

My Love of Michelle

Michelle, my twin sister has always been there as one of the most prominent people in my life. I even have a sense of having being squashed in the womb with her during my mother’s pregnancy
I love the playfulness and joke of nature that she looks similar to me and the confusion this has caused unwittingly on many people who were unsuspecting of our ‘doubledom’. This has caused many a chuckle over the years with all concerned.
The love was there from the beginning. We have photos of us holding hands from as early as two, sitting cheek to cheek in a tender embrace. This sweet tenderness and love has been with us always, not perfect of course, but continuously as a firm foundation under every interaction. The power of this  has rippled to every other part of my life, always supporting, holding, reassuring and acting as a scaffold in stormy weather and blowing as a cool breeze in gentler times. Her love is constant, unchanging, forever expanding and becoming greater being the beautiful woman she naturally is.
This amazing quality she brings to everyone equally in her life – her husband, children, family, friends, colleagues and neighbours . . . . she is always supporting, holding, reassuring and understanding.  She is wholly accepting of others, without judgment and criticism.
She is like a rock, dependable, reliable, sure in her wisdom that settles and reassures others through her presence and open loving heart.
I am profoundly inspired by the way she interacts and supports children to be themselves whether it is through her profession of teaching, or as a mother.  She is deeply loving to my niece and nephew and is an inspiration to others in her approach to parenting.
We have walked together in life every step of the way, loving and caring as we have travelled. She is my constant marker for all relationships showing me what love is . . . always supporting, holding, reassuring, understanding, gently exposing truth where needed.
Michelle, I am truly blessed to call you my sister, you have enriched my life beyond measure. Your unconditional love has given me an internal strength that is difficult to put into words. You accepted me for who I was growing up with not a smidgen of criticism . . . always holding, never judging, always accepting, gently revealing truth where needed, this is what you have brought to me . . . you brought me the reflection of God.
All in all I find Rachel to be awesome company and a total inspiration as a human being. Through our bond she reminds me of who I am and the enormity of where we are all from.
