Coleen and Rebekah - Friends Through The Ages
Coleen – My Joy-full and Inspirational Singing Partner
Coleen gives the meaning to the term joy-full and has been a huge inspiration in my life. I love how much fun she is to be around, she is so funny and playful and brings so much light into my life.
Coleen has the voice of an angel, her harmonies in song bring a delicateness that is felt and deeply inspiring. She is warm, loving and caring, embracing everyone equally. She has a strong ability to connect with the staff, cracks jokes with the residents and brings such purpose and commitment to all her relationships, including ours.
Constantly honouring of what she feels, Coleen is deeply connected with her body, which is reflected in the way she sings, moves, cooks, walks, dances; it is truly graceful. I love the advice and guidance she has given me throughout our friendship – it is always asking me to be more of who I am. She is supportive and an exceptional listener offering her unbiased and non-judgmental ear.
Coleen has a natural ability to express through song but there is no exception when it comes to other aspects of her life, including her incredible writing. Whether it’s writing songs, blogs or articles – she doesn’t hold back and shares her depth of wisdom with everyone she meets. Her ability to appreciate the simple gestures from nature, like the shape of the clouds or the feather on her shoe is always asking of me to feel deeper into what the reflections of life have to offer us. Her ‘what’s next’ attitude challenges me to keep exploring the possibilities of what I can bring to the world.
Having Coleen in my life is such a joy, a beautiful reflection and a confirmation of our divine purpose.
Rebekah - My Dedicated and Fun Loving Singing Partner
‘If anyone is interested in being one half of a singing duo, come and talk to me after the meeting,” I announced at a local community forum. When I later turned to leave, I was met by the open, frank and very direct gaze of two cornflower blue eyes and the words, uttered with absolute conviction, “I can support with that, Coleen.” And I knew instantly that the young woman standing before me would honour every word.
That young woman, Rebekah, has done so ever since that first meeting.
No matter the challenge presented to her, whether it be mastering a repertoire of songs in 3 weeks, to singing in a language she has had no previous experience of, Rebekah unfailingly brings a warm ‘can do’ attitude and a super steady commitment to it all. I have never heard her say ‘No’ to anything that was truly needed and she approaches all of our tasks with her down to earth humour, which is punctuated frequently by her affectionate, all embracing hugs. This solidity belies her youthful years.
Her singing voice shares how delicate and vulnerable she is and when performing, her playful sexiness and self-composure are very evident, much to the delight of our audiences.
When it comes to organisational skills, Rebekah always seems to know what is needed before it has been said, although she is always open to listening to another way to do things, too. She’s a girly-geek Tech head with computers, which is great as we use computerised backing tracks, which she assembles and re arranges as requested. Her sense of beauty, colour and harmony is most visible in her design skills. She has a knack for simply knowing what will work – hence the awesome design she did for our duo’s logo. I greatly admire her practicality in having everything ready for performances in advance – her commitment to detail is awesome.
In our relationship, Rebekah is always open, honest, warm and deeply caring. She dedicates her whole being to our shared purpose of singing in Aged Care facilities and is deeply loyal as a friend. She gives freely of her time and her expertise and has a formidable work ethic. She has always taken responsibility for her part in our songs and is always fun to hang out with, appreciative of all that we are and do together.
Some of the music we sing together can have you processing quite a bit and yet we laugh, cry, share and sing together in complete openness and in the absolute joy of who we are.
Rebekah is a divine blessing in my life so it is no wonder to me that together we ‘sound like angels.’
