Amina Tumi Hairdresser of Quality
NAME: Amina Tumi
AGE: 35 LOCATION: London Hairdresser I grew up in a very beautiful town called Barnes in London, it was a big house with a garden. I remember playing in the garden and really enjoying being on my seesaw with my brother and sister. Being playful as a child was so natural to me and although life got very serious when I got older I now know that being playful is part of me and is something I cherish now, as it is a beautiful way to be with myself and other people.
As a child I experienced a lot of bullying but this did not stop me from calling out and supporting others when I saw them to be treated in similar ways. I also became quite protective of my friends when we were out and about as I was always aware that the world was not a safe place – being streetwise and socialwise in terms of who you speak to and who you do not, was always something that I felt and then responded to.
I got into hairdressing when I was 15 years old as I did my work experience during school in a hairdressers and knew from that point that, that’s what I wanted to do. I enjoyed work and I found this to be so creative and I loved the attention to detail that was needed. I got a Saturday and Thursday evening job and after a short while I even arranged with my teachers that I would leave school early as I did not want to stay there a second longer. And so off I was into the start of a lifelong career. I was very dedicated to my work and this was seen and felt by all.

Living with a close friend has opened me up more and I find that I am now healthier and fitter than I have ever been. It has been a beautiful process to trust another and work with another in a way that is open and exposing of anything that is not supporting our own daily flow of life and how we are in the world, so a deeper level and intimacy with myself has now been developing
Looking at my life now there is so much of it I enjoy. If I were to choose my top favourite things it would be my hairdressing (cutting, colouring and hairups ), connecting with friends, clients and family, getting dressed up, especially when I feel rested and well looked after, eating, as I love cooking and being creative with food, and going for walks and swimming. Exercise has supported me so much with my work, and being present in my body while I work.

I currently live in West London, which is one of my favourite places in London. I live with a close friend after living alone for 4 years – after a 6 year relationship broke up it felt very honouring to really get to know myself in ways that I had not before. I no longer suffer with ‘down days’ like I used to and only have the odd ‘down moment’, which I soon pull myself out of. I wake in the morning ready for the day and I really enjoy just being with me while I do my daily tasks
